About the dog
In 2018 I was a receptionist in London at a graphic design company. Weekends were filled with windsurfing, longboarding and camping. However, Monday to Friday 9-5 you’d find me behind my desk, looking out the window above the cobbled streets of Jamaica Wharf dreaming of those weekends, counting every minuet down till they came.
Sitting on the train home, I’d get laughed at for reading ‘How To Live in a Van and Travel’ by Hudson and scribbling notes in it. I knew my dream had to be funded by the rat race, and weekends became my sanctuary.
I sat at my desk, day dreaming and conceptualised Bad Dog. A brand for those who can’t live the life we lead at the weekends everyday, but can participate.
Shopping ethically, being considerate of purchases; not going to chain coffee shops. Making a conscious and intentional choices to go to the old man in a van, who’s been turning up everyday for 30 years to caffeinate tired Londoners.
Consuming gentle media, being under-stimulated in a harsh, loud society.
I longed for a publication that reflected that, I didn’t want to scroll on my phone seeing the depressing news, and what Jackie had done with her kids at the weekend. I wanted to sit in the garden with my coffee, consuming thought provoking light media which didn’t feed into large conglomerates spewing inaccurate toxic drivel.
I wanted to read about the new Santa Cruz Land Shark, what coffee shop’s I’m missing out on and where I would be walking the dog I dreamt of getting one day.
An escape where I can note down those coffee shops to try, shops to visit that are my vibe and buy clothes that aren’t harming the planet, but aren’t made to be worn at burning man.
I drew the logo for Bad Dog on a DHL purchase order, and 8 years later I thought I better give it a go.
